Products Description
Tin sputtering targets are made of 99.99% pure tin of high purity and have a pure silvery gray look, a melting point of 232°C, and a density of 7.28 g/cm3. They are a vital part of the thin film deposition process.
Pure tin sputtering targets are low in melting point and high in ductility. They are mostly used to manufacture conductive films, solder coatings, optoelectronic materials, and food packaging. Moreover, tin sputtering target coatings can be used as a protective coating on other metals that are corrosion-resistant and chemically stable.
Tin sputtering target is used for thin film deposition, usually in fuel cells, decoration, semiconductors, displays, LEDs and photovoltaic devices, glass coatings, etc. Tin is also used to coat other metals to prevent corrosion. Tin alloys are important in soft solder, tin, bronze and phosphor bronze. For example, niobium-tin alloy is used for superconducting magnets.

Common types
Pure tin target: used for flexible electronics, food packaging coating, etc.
Alloy target: such as Sn-Ag-Cu (lead-free solder), Sn-In (low-temperature solder), Sn-Bi (ultra-low melting point alloy).
Compound target: such as tin oxide (SnO₂, transparent conductive film), tin sulfide (SnS, photovoltaic material).
Process
Smelting and casting: high-purity tin ingots are vacuum melted and cast into billets.
Rolling: cold rolling to the required thickness (tin is soft and easy to process into thin targets).
Mechanical fixation: tin targets usually do not need to be bound to a backplane (low-power sputtering), or combined with an aluminum backplane (anti-deformation).
Special treatment: prevent low-temperature phase change (gray tin powdering), and store in an environment >15°C.
Main applications
(1) Electronics and semiconductors
Conductive film: used for flexible circuits and touch screen electrodes (often used in combination with ITO).
Solder coating: Sn or Sn alloy film is used for chip packaging and PCB board coating.
(2) Photoelectric materials
Transparent conductive film: SnO₂ (FTO) is used for solar cells and liquid crystal displays.
Photovoltaic absorption layer: SnS/SnSe film is used for low-cost thin-film solar cells.
(3) Food packaging
Anti-corrosion coating: Pure tin film is coated on the inner wall of steel cans (tinplate) to prevent food corrosion.
(4) Superconducting materials
Nb₃Sn superconducting film: used for high-field magnets and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
