Comparison of the state and properties of tungsten and tungsten alloy materials
Material Status Process Description Typical Performance Characteristics
Sintered The powder is pressed into a compact shape and then sintered at high temperature, representing the most basic form. It has a relatively high density (typically reaching 92-98% of the theoretical value) and high hardness, but contains residual pores internally, resulting in low plasticity and toughness, and limited strength and ductility.
Forged The sintered blank is subjected to plastic deformation processing at high temperatures. It significantly improves density (approaching 100%), refines grain size, and substantially enhances tensile strength, toughness, and impact resistance, exhibiting pronounced anisotropy.
Rolled Directional deformation is achieved through rolling mills (commonly used for sheets and rods). Higher strength and hardness (due to work hardening), exhibiting distinct directional properties (longitudinal properties are superior to transverse properties), and a good surface finish.
Annealed The cold-worked material is heat-treated under a protective atmosphere. This process eliminates internal stress, reduces hardness, improves plasticity and toughness, restores some ductility, facilitates subsequent cutting or forming processes, but sacrifices some strength.

If you are unsure how to select the appropriate material condition, please provide your application scenario, loading conditions, subsequent processing techniques, and performance priorities (e.g., strength vs. machinability). Our technical team can recommend the best conditions for you and develop the corresponding heat treatment and machining process route.

FAQ

Q1: What tungsten and alloy materials can your company provide?

A1: We supply a full range of materials, including high-purity tungsten (Pure W), tungsten-copper alloys (WCu), tungsten-nickel-iron alloys (WHA), tungsten carbide, radiation shielding materials, precision machined parts, and various sputtering targets. Product forms include rods, plates, wires, boats, and custom-shaped parts.

Q2: What quality standards do you follow?

A2: We strictly adhere to internationally recognized standards such as ASTM, ISO, DIN, GB, and AMS, and can manufacture products according to customer drawings or company standards. A Certificate of Conformity (COC) and a detailed Certificate of Analysis (COA) are provided with each batch of material.

Q3: What are the differences between different material states (such as sintered, forged, and rolled)? How do you choose the right one?

A3: For product recommendations, please provide your application conditions, performance priorities, and subsequent processing methods, and our engineers will recommend the optimal solution for you.

Q4: What are the minimum order quantity (MOQ) and lead time?

A4: We support sample requests and small-batch trial production. The MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity) depends on the specific material and form (for example, standard sheets can be ordered in quantities as low as 1 piece). The lead time for standard products is 2-4 weeks; lead times for bulk orders or customized products will be assessed based on the complexity of the manufacturing process.

Q5: Can you provide customized machining services?

A5: Yes. We possess a full range of precision machining capabilities, including CNC machining, grinding, wire EDM, and polishing. We can manufacture precision parts according to your drawings, controlling strict dimensional tolerances and surface finish.

Q6: Are the export packaging and documentation complete?

A6: We use professional export packaging that is rust-proof and shock-resistant, and provide complete customs clearance documents, including: Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Certificate of Analysis (COA), Certificate of Conformity (COC), Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), and Certificate of Origin.

Q7: Which industries do you primarily serve?

A7: Our materials are widely used in various fields, including semiconductors (heaters, diffusion furnace components), aerospace (counterweights, engine components), medical (radiation shielding, collimators), vacuum/high-temperature furnaces (heat shields, sintering trays), oil and gas (logging instruments), and the electronics industry.

Q8: Can you provide custom sizes or special shapes?

A8: Yes. We support custom manufacturing of products ranging from rods, plates, and wires to complex, irregularly shaped parts, and provide precision machining services including CNC machining, grinding, EDM, and polishing.

Q9: What is the typical range of the main physical and mechanical properties of the material?

A9: Specific performance varies depending on the grade and condition. For example, WHA alloys can have a density of 17.0-18.5 g/cm³ and a hardness of 24-28 HRC.

Q10: How do different material states (such as sintered or forged) affect performance?

A10: Sintered materials have high density but low toughness; forged materials offer optimal density and overall mechanical properties; rolled materials exhibit high strength with directional properties; and annealed materials are suitable for subsequent machining. The specific choice depends on your application requirements.
