Molybdenum cup (also known as molybdenum crucible) is a high-temperature container made of high-purity molybdenum or molybdenum alloy, mainly used for melting, sintering or carrying high melting point materials.

Cup Forms include cambered cups, conical cups, convex spherical cup , trapezoid cup, etc.

Features

 

✅ High melting point: The melting point of molybdenum is as high as 2620℃, and it can be used for a long time at 1800~2000℃ (protective atmosphere is required).
✅ Corrosion resistance: It has good corrosion resistance to molten metals (such as copper, aluminum, silver), glass, rare earth, etc.
✅ High thermal conductivity: Heating is uniform, suitable for high-temperature smelting and crystal growth.
✅ High purity: ≥99.95% Mo, reducing the risk of contamination (suitable for semiconductor and photovoltaic industries).


⚠️ Disadvantages:

Low temperature brittleness: It is brittle at room temperature and mechanical shock should be avoided.

Easy to oxidize: MoO₃ (volatile) will be generated when encountering oxygen at high temperature, and it needs to be used in vacuum/inert atmosphere.

(1) Crystal Growth

Sapphire (Al₂O₃) crystal growth: used for LED substrates and optical window materials.

Rare earth crystals: such as YAG (yttrium aluminum garnet) and GGG (gadolinium gallium garnet).

Silicon single crystals: some photovoltaic and semiconductor processes.

 

(2) High-temperature smelting (Melting & Casting)

Rare metal smelting: such as titanium (Ti), zirconium (Zr), tantalum (Ta), etc.

Precious metal purification: gold (Au), silver (Ag), platinum (Pt), etc.

 

(3) Vacuum coating (Evaporation Coating)

As an evaporation source, it is used for PVD (physical vapor deposition) to coat aluminum, copper and other metal films.

 

(4) Powder Metallurgy
