The tungsten copper alloy, a part of copper and tungsten, forms the aluminum of electronic packaging technology. With wrought Tungsten metal, it forms it's heat sink. The quantity of tungsten in the composite is adjustable to match the properties of other materials such as BeO, Al2O3, Kovar, Si, etc. and can also be used to control the Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE).

 

The products are widely application in the fields such as radio frequency, microwave, high power diode packaging and optical communication system.

 

Besides, MoCu alloys are made by sintering molybdenum and copper together. This results in a tungsten copper heat sink of lower density, low CTE and excellent thermal conductivity. Mo-Cu is much lighter than W-Cu so that it is suitable for aeronautic and astronautic applications.

The W80Cu20 heat sink is composed of tungsten in the ration of 80% with 20% copper. Tungten is suited for this application because it has a very high melting point and is quite hard, copper on the other hand will ensure that the required heat is easily conducted and the two together will complement each other. The W80Cu20 heat sink has excellent thermal conductivity and mechanical properties, its thermal expansion coefficient is compatible with some semiconductor chips and other electronic components, greatly minimizing the risk of poor contact due to differences in thermal expansion, is very temperature shock resistant, and can endure multiple hot and cold cycles without damage.
