Characteristics of Nickel-Niobium Targets
Shapes: Planar targets, custom-shaped targets
Purity: 3N
Dimensions: Machined according to drawings or custom-made
Method for Preparing Nickel-Niobium Alloy Targets
Raw Material Preparation: Select high-purity nickel and niobium powders as raw materials, ensuring their purity meets the requirements for target fabrication (e.g., purities exceeding 99.9% for both).
Powder Mixing: Precisely weigh the nickel and niobium powders according to the designed alloy composition ratio and thoroughly mix them using appropriate equipment. To ensure homogeneity, ball milling may be employed, with carefully controlled milling times and ball-to-powder ratios.
Compaction/Forming: Load the uniformly mixed powder into a mold and compact it using methods such as cold isostatic pressing (CIP) or hot isostatic pressing (HIP) to produce a target blank with the required density and strength. CIP allows for initial shaping at lower pressures, while HIP further enhances the density of the blank through high-temperature, high-pressure processing.
Sintering: Place the compacted target blank into a vacuum furnace for sintering to eliminate inter-particle voids and improve the target's density and performance. Sintering temperature and duration are critical parameters; typically, temperatures range from 1000°C to 1500°C, and holding times vary from a few hours to several tens of hours, depending on the specific composition and dimensions of the target.
Machining: Subject the sintered target to machining processes-such as turning and grinding-to achieve the specified dimensions and surface finish requirements.
Application of Nickel-Niobium Alloy Targets
Semiconductor field: It can be used to prepare barrier layers, electrodes, and interconnect materials by sputtering. Nickel-niobium alloy films can effectively prevent the diffusion of metal atoms, improve the performance and reliability of semiconductor devices, and have important applications in integrated circuit manufacturing.
Display technology field: In flat display industries such as OLED and liquid crystal displays, nickel-niobium alloy targets can be used to prepare electrodes or reflective layer materials, which help to improve the brightness, response speed, and color stability of the screen.
Optical coating field: It can be used to prepare various optical coatings, such as infrared reflective films, anti-laser damage coatings, etc., which are used in precision optical devices, laser systems, optical instruments, and other fields to meet different optical performance requirements.
Wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant coating fields: Due to its good wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant properties, nickel-niobium alloy targets can be used to prepare wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant films on mechanical parts, tool surfaces, etc., to improve the service life and performance of parts, and have broad application prospects in aerospace, automobile manufacturing, mechanical processing, and other industries.
Other Applications of Nickel-Niobium Alloys
Aerospace Industry: Used in turbine blades and combustion chambers for aero-engines, where the alloy's high melting point and excellent thermal stability allow it to withstand extreme thermal stress; also used to manufacture structural components such as wings and fuselage frames, significantly reducing aircraft weight.
Medical Devices: Used to manufacture surgical instruments, joint replacement implants, and heart valves; its corrosion resistance, non-toxicity, and biocompatibility ensure the safety and durability of medical equipment.
Energy Industry: Serves as a material for control rods and other critical structures in nuclear reactors due to its ability to withstand the long-term effects of high-energy radiation; in oil and gas extraction, it is used to manufacture key components for drilling equipment, enabling them to withstand harsh environments containing sulfur compounds and other corrosive substances.
Electronics Industry: Applied in semiconductor manufacturing equipment, where it operates stably in environments exposed to high temperatures and corrosive chemicals; also used to manufacture connectors and switches, leveraging its excellent electrical conductivity and long-term electrical reliability.
Automotive Industry: Used to manufacture internal engine parts such as pistons and cylinder liners, providing high performance and durability; also used in exhaust system components-such as exhaust pipes and catalytic converters-to withstand high-temperature gases and corrosive chemicals.
