Description of Beryllium Rod
Yitech supplies beryllium rods of good quality and reasonable price. The purity of beryllium at least 99%.
Beryllium is used in alloys with copper or nickel to make gyroscopes, springs, electrical contacts, spot-welding electrodes and non-sparking tools. Mixing beryllium with these metals increases their electrical and thermal conductivity.
Other beryllium alloys are used as structural materials for high-speed aircraft, missiles, spacecraft and communication satellites.
Beryllium is relatively transparent to X-rays so ultra-thin beryllium foil is finding use in X-ray lithography. Beryllium is also used in nuclear reactors as a reflector or moderator of neutrons.
The oxide has a very high melting point, making it useful in nuclear work as well as having ceramic applications.
Both structural and instrument-grade materials are manufactured, especially for use in aerospace and defense:
Windshield frames and other structures in high-speed aircraft and space vehicles
Aircraft and space shuttle brakes
Satellite mirrors and space telescopes
Inertial guidance systems and gyroscopes
Neutron moderator or reflector in nuclear reactors
X-ray windows
Nuclear weapons components
Beryllium-copper (BeCu) alloys usually contain about 2 percent beryllium, but vary greatly in composition to meet different industrial and consumer needs. Beryllium contributes hardness, strength, high electrical and thermal conductivity, and resistance to corrosion, wear, and fatigue. For example, BeCu springs "bounce back" to their original shape again and again.
Impurity Control of Beryllium Rod
Key impurity limits: Fe < 500ppm, Al < 300ppm, C < 100ppm (to avoid grain boundary embrittlement).
Purification process: vacuum distillation (1600℃/10⁻⁶Pa) or electrolytic refining (potassium fluoroberyllate molten salt).
Grain structure control:
Thermomechanical treatment: After hot rolling (800℃), the grain size is < 10μm (EBSD analysis), and the tensile strength is increased by 30%.
Equal channel angular extrusion (ECAP): Preparation of ultrafine beryllium (grains < 1μm), the elongation is increased from 3% to 15%.
Safety and environmental protection regulations of Beryllium Rod
Toxicity management
Protection level:
OSHA limit: 0.2μg/m³ (8-hour weighted average), positive pressure protective clothing is required.
Waste treatment:
Acid dissolution recovery (H₂SO₄+H₂O₂), beryllium recovery rate>99.9%, residue solidification landfill.
Operation specifications
Processing workshop requirements:
Negative pressure environment (-10Pa), air flow speed 0.5m/s (ANSI/ASME Beryllium Standard).

Features of beryllium rods
1. High Melting Point: The melting point of the beryllium rod is around 1278°C or 2343°F; with this, beryllium rods can be used in high-temperature environments without softening.
2. Low Density: Beryllium rod has low density; hence, it falls under one of the lightweight metals. With this property, weight reduction can be allowed in critical applications.
3. Stiffness: The beryllium rod has a high modulus of elasticity; hence, it is very stiff and therefore can carry the structural loads with least deformation.
4. Heat conduction: Beryllium rod is a good conductor of heat; thus, heat can be transmitted easily.
5. X-ray Transparency: Beryllium rod is transparent to X-rays; this could make a difference in applications where the passage of X-ray radiation is important.
6. Nuclear Properties: Due to its neutron-reflective and moderating properties, especially in nuclear-related applications, the beryllium rod makes for a very good neutron reflector and moderator.

Dental bridges and related applications
Beryllium is also added to aluminum, nickel, zinc, and zirconium for some applications. Beryllium-nickel alloys are used in automobile airbags. A relatively new beryllium-aluminum alloy (the registered trademark is "Beralcast") is being used in fighter planes, helicopters, and missile systems.
