Description of TZM Molybdenum Rod

 

TZM alloy, also known as molybdenum-titanium-zirconium alloy, is a high-temperature alloy with molybdenum as the main raw material and titanium, zirconium and carbon as auxiliary materials. Both titanium and zirconium play the role of solid solution strengthening and carbide dispersion strengthening. , so the alloy has the characteristics of high strength, high recrystallization temperature and high ductility.

 

TZM Molybdenum Rod has various advantages of molybdenum alloy, such as high temperature strength, good dimensional stability, excellent heat resistance, high thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity, low thermal expansion coefficient, good corrosion resistance, low energy consumption and strong durability etc.

Features of TZM Molybdenum Rod

 

1. Ultra-high temperature performance
The melting point is as high as 2610℃, and it can work for a long time at 1200℃ (air) or 1800℃ (inert/vacuum), and the short-term temperature resistance is 2000℃.

The high temperature strength is significantly better than pure molybdenum, and the tensile strength at 1000℃ is ≥250 MPa (pure molybdenum is only 150 MPa).

2. Excellent creep resistance
The recrystallization temperature is increased to 1400℃ (pure molybdenum is 1000℃), and the deformation is <1% in the 1000℃/100-hour creep test

Ti/Zr is added to form a solid solution strengthening, and the high temperature stability is excellent.

3. Good processing performance
Support hot forging/hot rolling forming, machining needs to be preheated to 200-300℃ (carbide tool).

It can be welded (electron beam welding/argon arc welding), and annealing is required to eliminate stress after welding.

Preparation Process of TZM Molybdenum Rod


• Powder metallurgy: -325 mesh Mo powder + TiH₂/ZrH₂ → 200 MPa cold isostatic pressing → 1500 ℃ liquid phase sintering → 1400 ℃ hot isostatic pressing (HIP), density ≥99.5%.
• Melting and casting method: vacuum arc melting (VAR), three times remelting, ingot grain size ASTM 4-6, subsequent 1100 ℃ multi-directional forging + finishing rolling.
