Description of Mo-La Alloy Bar

Mo-La Alloy Bar, also known as high-temperature molybdenum, grade MoLa, is a so-called laminated fiber structure formed by doping a small amount of lanthanum trioxide (La2O3) particles in molybdenum. Molybdenum lanthanum (Mo-La) alloys can work at high temperatures up to 1800°C. The mechanical properties can be greatly improved by adding a small amount of lanthanum oxide (usually 0.4-2%) to pure molybdenum.

We can supply Mo-La Alloy Bar in various sizes. This special microstructure remains stable at temperatures up to 2000°C. Therefore, molybdenum-lanthanum oxide has creep resistance even under service conditions.

We mainly process these molybdenum alloys into high-temperature furnace components such as vacuum furnace heat shields, sintering and annealing boats, twisted wires, or evaporator coils. Application: Due to its excellent high-temperature strength, high temperature plasticity and other special properties, molybdenum-rhenium alloys are often widely used in aerospace, atomic energy, ultra-high temperature alloys, semiconductor magnetron sputtering, high temperature thermal fields, and other industrial fields.

Features of Mo-La Alloy Bar

1. Ultra-high Melting Point and High-Temperature Strength
Melting point: 2610°C, maintaining high strength at 1200-1800°C (20%-30% better than pure molybdenum).

Excellent creep resistance: Less than 1% creep rate at 1600°C/100h.

2. Significantly Higher Recrystallization Temperature: The recrystallization temperature of pure molybdenum is approximately 1000°C, while that of molybdenum-lanthanum alloys can reach 1400-1600°C, extending service life.

3. Excellent Thermal Shock Resistance: Low thermal expansion coefficient (5.8×10⁻⁶/°C) and high thermal conductivity (138 W/m·K) allow for withstanding rapid cooling and heating (such as rocket nozzle ignition).

4. Excellent Processability (Compared to Pure Molybdenum): Lanthanum refines grain size and improves room-temperature plasticity, enabling forging, rolling, drawing, and other processes.

However, hot working (>1000°C) is still required to prevent cold brittleness.

5. Corrosion Resistance
Resistant to corrosion by molten metals (such as copper and aluminum), but requires protective coatings (such as MoSi₂) in oxidizing environments above 500°C.

Applications of Mo-La Alloy Bar

1. High-Temperature Industrial Furnaces
Sintering Furnace Heating Elements: Used for powder metallurgy and ceramic sintering (operating temperature 1600-1800°C).

Sapphire Crystal Growth Furnace Hot Field: Support crucibles and heat shields (resistant to high-temperature aluminum vapor corrosion).

2. Electronics and Semiconductors
LED/MOCVD Equipment Components: Resistant to high-temperature halogen gases (such as GaCl₃).

Electron Beam Evaporation Source Crucibles: Evaporation vessels for high-purity applications.

3. Aerospace and Military
Rocket Engine Nozzle Throat Liners: The SpaceX Merlin engine uses Mo-La alloy.

Missile Nozzle Caps: Protect against ultra-high-temperature airflow during atmospheric re-entry.
