Products Description

Molybdenum rings are widely used in diamond processing, mainly because of their unique physical and chemical properties, which make them very suitable for this high-precision processing. In the production and processing of cultured diamonds by the MPCVD method, molybdenum sheets or rings are used as carriers for diamond growth because molybdenum has a high melting point and good high-temperature stability. However, during the diamond growth process, diamond polycrystalline films may be produced on the surface of the molybdenum sheets or rings. These polycrystalline films are hard and tightly bonded and need to be removed after the diamond cultivation is completed and before the next cultivation. In addition, molybdenum rings are also used in quartz continuous melting, glass melting and other high-temperature furnace supports due to their high purity, good high-temperature strength and low pollution characteristics.

Application of molybdenum rings

High temperature industry: vacuum furnace insulation screen, single crystal furnace thermal field components.

Electronics/semiconductors: diffusion barriers and electrode rings in chip manufacturing.

Glass manufacturing: molten glass stirring rods and electrodes (corrosion resistant).

Aerospace: rocket nozzle bushings and high temperature sensor housings.

Medical: target materials or collimator components in radiotherapy equipment.

Processing and manufacturing considerations

Molding process:

Powder metallurgy: a common method, molybdenum powder is pressed and sintered at high temperature (1600-2000°C).

Machining: Turning/grinding with diamond tools after sintering, slow cooling is required to prevent brittle cracking.

Welding: argon arc welding or electron beam welding is required, and the oxide layer must be completely removed before welding.

Surface treatment: nickel plating or spraying of anti-oxidation coating (such as silicide) can be used to extend life.

Tolerance control: precision rings need to be ground, and the tolerance can reach ±0.01mm (depending on application requirements).

FAQ of Molybdenum rings

1. Why choose molybdenum ring as the electrode material for HPHT synthetic diamond?
✅ High melting point (2620°C), can withstand the high temperature of synthetic diamond (1300-1600°C).
✅ Good conductivity, ensure stable current transmission and uniform heating.
✅ Chemical inertness, reduce reaction with catalysts (such as Ni, Fe), and avoid contaminating diamonds.
❌ Disadvantages: easy to oxidize at high temperature, need to be used in an inert atmosphere or vacuum environment.

2. What effect does the purity of molybdenum ring have on diamond synthesis?
🔹 ≥99.95% purity: suitable for most industrial-grade HPHT synthesis.
🔹 ≥99.99% high-purity molybdenum: reduce the migration of impurities such as Fe and Ni, and improve the purity of gem-grade diamonds.
⚠️ Impurity influence: may cause metal inclusions or color deviations (such as gray/black impurities) in diamonds.

3. Can molybdenum rings be replaced by tungsten rings?
🔄 Yes, but there are trade-offs:

✅ Tungsten advantages: higher melting point (3422°C), lower thermal expansion, suitable for ultra-high pressure (>7GPa).

❌ Tungsten disadvantages: more brittle, more difficult to process, and more expensive.
🔹 Applicable scenarios: extreme high pressure experiments or special needs, generally HPHT synthetic molybdenum rings are more economical.

4. Are you a factory ?
Yes, we are factory but we generally use our trading company to handle the business abroad. It will be convenient to receive the remittance and arrange the shipment.

5. What is the MOQ
A: Depends on quantity, generally, no MOQ limit.

6. How to pay for it?
A: A bank transfer (T/T) will be acceptable.

7. What is the delivery time?
A: around 7-20 days which depends on the quantity and production.

8. What is kind of the package?
A: generally, we use carton case or plywood case and with protective material inside to ensure the save of cargo.

9. What is the lead time?
A: from order placed to cargo receiving will take around 10-25 days.

10. What is the delivery method?
A: Generally, we send cargo by UPS, DHL or FedEx. Also, we can send by sea to seaport or by air to the closest airport.
