Description
Tungsten TIG electrode, also known as a tungsten GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) electrode, is a type of electrode used in TIG welding, which is a process fuses metal parts together by using a non-consumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld. TIG welding is known for its precision, high quality, and the ability to create welds with minimal distortion.
Tungsten TIG electrode plays a crucial role in TIG welding because it carries the electric current to the workpiece, initiating and maintaining the arc. Tungsten is chosen for electrodes due to its high melting point, approximately 3,422 degrees Celsius (6,191 degrees Fahrenheit), which allows it to remain and not melt away during the welding process.
